Campaign-specific placement exclusions allow you to control where your ads appear at the individual campaign level. You can exclude specific website domains, mobile apps, or CTV apps if they do not align with your brand, messaging, or performance goals.
These exclusions apply only to the selected campaign. You can also configure exclusions at the account level using General Ad Placement Exclusions. General exclusions take precedence over campaign-specific exclusions, with any additional campaign-level exclusions layered on top.
Campaign-Specific Exclusion Types
AdRoll supports campaign-specific exclusions across the following inventory types:
Domain Exclusions (Web Campaigns)
Exclude specific website domains or publishers from web campaigns.
When excluding domains:
- Enter one domain per line.
- We apply an implicit leading wildcard (e.g., entering acme.com excludes *.acme.com).
- Subpages (e.g., acme.com/page) cannot be excluded individually.
For detailed setup steps and examples, click Campaign-Specific Placement Exclusions: by Domain and App.
Mobile App Exclusions
Exclude specific mobile apps from serving your ads within mobile inventory.
Mobile apps must be excluded using their platform-specific App IDs:
- Android: Use the package name from the Google Play Store URL (e.g., com.appname).
- iOS: Use the numeric App Store ID found at the end of the app’s App Store URL.
To fully block a mobile app, you must add both the iOS App ID and the Android App ID if the app exists on both platforms.
For step-by-step instructions, click Campaign-Specific Placement Exclusions: by Domain and App.
CTV App Exclusions
Exclude specific Connected TV (CTV) apps from CTV campaigns.
CTV apps are distributed across multiple device platforms (such as Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung, LG, and others). Each platform assigns its own unique App ID. To fully block a CTV app, you must exclude each platform-specific App ID where the app is available.
To read about finding CTV App IDs and setting up exclusions, click Campaign-Specific Placement Exclusions: CTV Apps.
When to Use Campaign-Specific Placement Exclusions
Campaign-specific exclusions are useful when:
- A placement does not align with brand standards
- You have performance-based reasons to restrict certain inventory
- You need campaign-level control beyond your account-wide exclusions
Because placement exclusions reduce available inventory, they may limit scale and impact campaign delivery. We recommend using them selectively and only when necessary.
