The Authenticated User that connects your Salesforce org to AdRoll ABM can be set up in one of two ways. Review both before proceeding so you choose the option that fits your use of the platform.
Recommended: Full Salesforce User License
A full Salesforce user license (Salesforce, Salesforce Platform, or equivalent) gives the Authenticated User access to all features of the integration, including:
- Bi-directional data sync
- Sales Insights CRM widget and Visualforce components
- Account record creation, field mapping, and reporting
- Standard setup using our documented RollWorks Admin permission set
This is the fastest, best-supported path and the only option that guarantees access to our full feature set today and as we release new features.
Alternative: Salesforce Integration User License (Limited Functionality)
The Salesforce Integration User license (and similar API-only licenses, such as the Salesforce API Only System Integrations profile) can be used, but with significant limitations:
- ❌ Sales Insights is not available — the widget and related Visualforce components require UI access, which this license type does not provide.
- ❌ Any future feature that renders in the Salesforce UI will not be available to your team.
- ⚙️ Setup is not plug-and-play: you will need to clone our standard AdRoll Admin permission set and remove Visualforce page/component access before assigning it to the Authenticated User. Our support team can point you to the required permissions, but cannot troubleshoot custom permission set configurations.
Choose this option only if you do not plan to use Sales Insights and have Salesforce admin resources available to customize permission sets.
