CTV App Targeting: Campaign-Specific Placement Inclusions

AdRoll ABM allows you to select specific streaming apps where you want your CTV ads to appear. With CTV app targeting, you can choose apps like AMC, NFL+, Tubi, and more directly within your campaign setup. 

 

Why Would I Need CTV App Targeting?

By default, CTV campaigns run across a broad set of apps, which maximizes scale and gives your ads the best opportunity to reach your audience efficiently. CTV app targeting gives you more control to narrow delivery to specific apps. When used thoughtfully, app targeting lets you 

  • Satisfy brand safety or specific content requirements
  • Capture the credibility "halo effect" from appearing alongside premium content on well-known, trusted apps 
  • Concentrate spend on apps known to align with your brand and audience

Keep in mind that restricting delivery to a limited set of apps reduces overall scale and will likely increase CPMs. We recommend starting broad, letting your campaign run across the full inventory, and using the CTV Apps report to identify where you're seeing strong performance, then applying inclusions based on that data rather than upfront assumptions.

 

How to Set Up CTV App Targeting

Follow these steps to set up the CTV app targeting for your AdRoll ABM Lookalike campaigns:

  • Log in to AdRoll ABM and navigate to Advertising > Campaigns & Playbooks on the left side menu
  • Click the Create button and select Ad Campaign
  • Choose the Lookalike campaign strategy
  • Select CTV as the Channel
  • Navigate to Ad Groups to set up your targeting criteria
  • Under Apps, select Manual and use the app search/lookup function to find and select the CTV apps you want to target
     


 

Important Considerations

  • Supported regions: US, Canada, and Australia 
  • To keep costs low and scale high, start with broad targeting before applying specific exclusions. By analyzing your CTV Apps report first, you can identify high-performers and ensure any increase in CPM is backed by solid performance data.
